A small workshop of 10 – 13 students will meet one evening per week for 8 weeks. Each class will be 2 1/2 hours. The total cost of the course is $1095. In order to reserve one of the limited places in the class, please email Alan a brief note telling him your name, the shows you like to watch, and your writing background if relevant. Once you hear back from him, you may then reserve a seat in the class by placing a 50 percent deposit through PayPal or by personal check.

A 7-8 week advanced workshop with a maximum of 11 students. Modeled on a professional writers room, students actively participate in discussing each others’ scripts. Open to those who have taken previous workshops with Alan. Cost $1100.

A 4 hour intensive course in the essentials of TV writing, including how to build a portfolio to get an agent and a job, how to structure a spec script and pilot, and how to brainstorm story ideas that sell. Each student gets individual feedback on their current TV script or idea.

Special guests have included writers from 30 Rock, Colbert Report, Seinfeld, Smash, Onion News Network, Law and Order.

LA TV WRITING INTENSIVE – Winter and Summer 2017

This small immersive workshop of 9-10 writers will meet for seven days in Los Angeles. Each class will be 3 hours and there will be an opportunity for individual consultations.

In a clearly defined step-by- step process students learn how to write a SPEC SCRIPT or ORIGINAL PILOT. A spec script is for a TV show that is currently on the air and an original pilot is for a TV series you create. A great spec script and pilot are what you need to get a job as a television writer.

After you select a show, you will learn how to brainstorm story ideas, structure an outline and write scenes with dialogue, all in a constructive, supportive workshop atmosphere. The class covers both comedies and dramas and is designed for both the beginning and experienced writer. Perfect for LA locals and out-of-towners looking for a script-cation.
